About project

This project focused on providing a scalable e-commerce solution for Globus, the largest retail network in Kyrgyzstan and a key business within the Umai Group. Globus has earned its position as the market leader by offering an extensive range of products and services across more than 150 locations, including hypermarkets, supermarkets, and express stores. The company is renowned for its wide-reaching customer base, which spans numerous cities and regions across the country.

As part of the Umai Group, which is a diversified conglomerate with investments in retail, real estate, and other industries, Globus sought to enhance its digital infrastructure. While the company already had an existing website and mobile app, it needed a more scalable, efficient, and future-proof solution to accommodate its rapid growth and evolving customer demands.

Our team delivered a comprehensive solution, including ecommerce website development, a cross-platform mobile app development, and a customized admin panel—all designed to provide better user experiences, streamline operations, and support Globus's expansion into the digital space.

Globus was already operating with a website and mobile app, but required a more efficient and scalable solution. Key challenges included:

  1. Third-Party Integrations: The platform relied on multiple third-party services, creating complexities in user experience and maintenance.
  2. Large Customer Database: With over 1 million active users, the database needed to be scalable, performant, and easy to manage.
  3. Delivery Pricing Complexity: Accurate, dynamic pricing was essential to handle delivery calculations based on product weight, quantity, and delivery region.
  4. Seamless User Migration: Ensuring a smooth user transition without requiring re-authentication was critical to avoid unnecessary operational costs and user disruption.
  5. Order Management: Mirroring offline workflows and roles with a robust, role-based access control (RBAC) system was needed.

  • Data Migration: A seamless data migration strategy ensured a smooth transfer of over 1 million user records without requiring re-logins, preserving user experience.
  • Custom Data Synchronization: We developed a Python-based service for syncing bonus points and loyalty rewards, ensuring real-time data consistency across systems.
  • Order Workflow & Role Management: We designed a flexible order management system that mirrored offline workflows, integrating role-based access controls to enhance security and operational efficiency.
  • Unified Delivery Pricing: We implemented polygon-based delivery management, ensuring accurate pricing based on product weight and delivery region, while providing flexible pricing options.
  • Unified Purchase History: The system combined both online and offline purchases, allowing customers to reorder items easily, encouraging repeat purchases and enhancing user loyalty.
  • Discount System Customization: We implemented a flexible logic for handling different types of discounts—including general and personalized discounts.
  • Elastic Search Implementation: Faster, more accurate product searches were enabled, improving the user experience across the platform.
  • Zabbix Monitoring: Real-time performance monitoring using Zabbix helped ensure platform stability and performance.
  • Analytics Integration: Integrated analytics provided valuable insights into user behavior, sales data, and platform performance, supporting data-driven business decisions.

Key results

  • Unified Backend for Website and App Both the website and mobile app now share a single backend, ensuring consistent and synchronized data across platforms. Previously, product pricing logic differed between the two, causing discrepancies and inconsistent pricing. The unified approach has eliminated these issues, providing a seamless user experience.
  • Optimized Delivery System We successfully integrated an automatic, accurate delivery pricing system based on product weight, distance, and delivery region. Previously, delivery costs were only calculated after order confirmation by an operator, often leading to cancellations. The new system provides upfront pricing, ensuring transparency and reducing cancellations.
  • Scalable, Seamless Platform The new website, mobile app, and admin panel offer a scalable solution that can easily support the growing customer base of over 1 million users. The migration was smooth with no disruptions to the user experience, and the transition to the new platform was completed without requiring users to log in again.
  • Streamlined Third-Party Integrations By reducing external dependencies and consolidating services, we simplified third-party integrations. This led to better system performance, lower maintenance costs, and improved control over data flow.
  • Improved Order Management The newly developed order workflow system mirrors Globus’s offline processes, enhancing structure and control. The introduction of role-based access and the ability to manage order statuses improved order handling across all platforms, increasing efficiency and security.
  • Increased Efficiency for Admins The new admin panel features a user-friendly interface for managing inventory, delivery pricing, and order statuses. Admins now have granular control over product quantities, weights, and order details, significantly reducing manual work and ensuring data accuracy.
  • Reduced Operational Costs The transition to a custom-built authorization and notification system removed the need for multiple third-party services, resulting in cost savings and improved system reliability. Streamlined processes also reduced the time and resources spent on managing customer logins and data synchronization.
